Jameson Davis Copp grew up in North Hampton, New Hampshire.  He graduated from the University of the New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009.

In the summer of 2006, Jameson traveled to Ascoli Piceno, Italy.  He studied painting with fellow artists and was immersed in Italy’s art and culture.  After a month in Italy, he returned to UNH in the fall, where he was accepted into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program with a concentration in sculpture.

Jameson first discovered sculpture through ceramics; he found comfort and excitement with clay as a material.  In the fall of 2007, Jameson was awarded a ceramics fellowship at the University of New Hampshire, where he further developed his skills in ceramics.

His current work encompasses pottery and clay sculpture, as well as a focus in oil painting. He has shown his sculpture in various juried exhibitions around the country from Chicago, IL to Palo Alto, CA, and Savannah, GA.

Currently, Jameson resides in the greater Boston area and teaches ceramic and sculpture classes at Clay Dreaming Pottery Studio in Beverly, MA and Maud Morgan Arts in Cambridge, MA.

Artist Statement:

“I believe that the greatest achievements are through hard work.  For me, my creative process involves exploration, investigation, and discovery.  It is my goal to learn more about my surroundings, the world in which we live, and myself as a person, through my work.  I find that moments in which we actually realize knowledge are few and far between.  Often I discover that what I know becomes what I don’t know, leaving me with less understanding than before, but through working and working a moment of clarity occurs.  It comes without warning and often the original intent of a piece becomes lost and something more inspiring, more meaningful becomes found.  These moments of exploration and discovery are what I find to be the most important, as well as the most rewarding in my work.”
